Before he was a leading man, and even before he was a fashion model, Channing Tatum paid his rent by stripping. Now the 31-year-old actor is collaborating with director Steven Soderbergh to bring a story inspired by his earliest “performing” gig to the silver screen.
Tatum, is co-producing the film, titled Magic Mike, said the it is based on a “wild time in my life.” And the Dear John star actually pitched his idea for a story of friendship set in the world of male strippers to Soderbergh, who called it one of the “best ideas” he’s ever heard for a movie. “We’re using Saturday Night Fever as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track,” said the Oscar-winning director.
